Judge Megan Goldish named President of The Decalogue Society of Lawyers

Chicago Judge Megan Goldish recently was named President of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers. At an event held in July, Goldish spoke to how she looks forward to carrying on the tradition of the Decalogue Society. “We strive to promote diversity within our profession, to practice law with compassion, and to improve the world around us.”

For over 80 years, the Chicago based organization has worked to support Jewish lawyers and the community not just in Chicago, but throughout the state of Illinois. Established in 1934, the Decalogue Society of Lawyers is the nation’s oldest Jewish bar Association. The Society aims to advance the professions, encourage the best practices in bar and bench, educate the public on the judicial system, and lobby for the betterment of the system, especially on Jewish issues and antisemitism. The Society also endeavors to build relationships with other ethnic and religious organizations and the Jewish community. Members enjoy a minimum of 18 general CLE credits, three professional responsibility credits yearly, and a 10–20 percent discount on all Decalogue events. Also, the member gains automatic membership in the Alliant Credit Union, a member-owned financial and credit cooperative. The Society has broadened the bar’s visibility by collaborating with other associations, including the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (AAJLJ). The initiative aims to increase the presence of each association and share individual benefits among the members, such as networking, legal lectures, and professional development tools.
