An Overview of the Chicago Lighthouse Seniors Program
The Chicago Lighthouse offers various social and vision care services for the visually impaired, physically challenged, and veterans. The social service organization has many programs, including the Seniors Program, which caters to adults aged 55 years and above who experience challenges associated with vision loss. The program is designed to help beneficiaries enhance their independence, gain critical skills, and develop a community of seniors affected by blindness or visual impairment.
The Seniors Program offers regular programs in exercise and wellness, brain games, and technology training. In addition, the program offers specialized topic-driven sessions that address key issues facing the Lighthouse community. The program organizers work closely with local partner organizations who bring in experts to help administer the program. The Seniors Program also has a support group that brings together participants of over 55 years for an interactive session to exchange information and ideas on how to help individuals maintain their independence. Program classes and events occur monthly, and participants can determine their schedules based on their availability and interests.
